Crypto casinos are not legal everywhere, and even where they are legal, individual operators may decline to accept your country. Below is a snapshot of where the operators FairLedger covers do and do not generally accept players. This is not legal advice - the legal status of online gambling in your jurisdiction is your responsibility.
Country-by-country snapshot
| Country | Typical status | Note |
|---|---|---|
| United States | Restricted | Most operators we cover do not accept US players. Stake.us is a separate sweepstakes-only product. |
| United Kingdom | Restricted | UKGC requires a licence to advertise to UK players. Most crypto casinos hold an offshore licence and cannot accept UK accounts. |
| France | Restricted | ANJ-licensed operators only. Crypto casinos are blocked at the DNS level by French ISPs. |
| Australia | Restricted | Interactive Gambling Act 2001 bans most online casino services for Australian residents. |
| Spain | Restricted | DGOJ licence required. Crypto casinos cannot lawfully accept Spanish accounts. |
| Netherlands | Restricted | KSA enforcement against unlicensed operators since October 2021. |
| Germany | Permitted with caution | Operators with a Schleswig-Holstein or GGL licence may accept some games. |
| Canada | Permitted (province dependent) | Provincial regulators (AGCO, BCLC, ALC) operate parallel licensed offerings. |
| Brazil | Permitted | Lei nÂș 14,790 / 2023 created a new licensing regime; offshore brands operate while applications are processed. |
| Japan | Restricted | Most forms of online casino gambling are illegal under Japanese criminal code. |
| India | Permitted (state dependent) | States such as Goa, Sikkim and Daman permit; states such as Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh prohibit. |
| Most of EU and EEA | Permitted with caution | Some operators geo-block specific EU members or limit currency. Check on signup. |
How to check your country at any operator
- Read the operator's terms of service - the restricted-territory list is usually at the bottom.
- Try to deposit. Operators block restricted countries at signup, not after the deposit clears.
- If a VPN is required to access an operator, your account will likely be closed without a withdrawal at first KYC. Do not gamble with money you cannot afford to lose to a closed account.
Always do this
- Read the local statute - "online gambling" can mean different things in different places.
- Check if your bank or card issuer blocks gambling merchants. Many UK and EU banks do.
- If unsure, consult a local lawyer.
